Mid Infrared 2500 - 6000 nm Wide Bandpass Filters
Mid Infrared wide bandpass filters are optical filters designed to transmit a wider range of wavelengths while blocking out unwanted wavelengths. These filters are designed by combining a long pass filter and a short pass filter which can be positioned anywhere to create a bandpass filter of any width. More details on the uses and applications of mid infrared wide bandpass filters can be found in our case studies.
We design and manufacture custom mid infrared narrow bandpass filters between 2500 to 6000 nm to any custom specification. We hold a wide range of stock substrates such as Silicon, Sapphire, Infrared Quartz, Calcium Fluoride and more. We also have onsite dicing, so we are able to design, manufacture and dice filters to their finished size with very short lead times.

Applications

Gas sensing:
Mid-infrared filters are used in gas sensors for detecting and analysing gases based on their specific absorption patterns in the mid-infrared region. This is important for environmental monitoring, industrial safety, and medical diagnostics.

Astronomy:
Infrared astronomy utilises mid-infrared filters to observe celestial objects, study planetary atmospheres, and investigate the composition of distant stars and galaxies.

Food quality control:
Mid-infrared filters are used in food processing and quality control to analyse composition, detect contaminants, and monitor food safety parameters such as moisture content and fat levels and to check for ‘food fraud’.

Environmental monitoring:
Wide band pass filters in the mid-infrared range are employed in environmental monitoring systems to analyse pollutants and assess air quality for regulatory compliance and public health.

Spectroscopy:
Mid-infrared filters are utilised in spectroscopic instruments for chemical analysis, material identification, and molecular structure determination. They enable researchers to study the vibrational modes of molecules and analyse complex compounds.

Thermal imaging:
Wide band pass filters in the mid-infrared range are essential in thermal imaging cameras for capturing and visualising heat signatures emitted by objects. This is useful in applications such as building inspections, security surveillance, non-contact temperature measurement and military equipment.
