Case Study: Precision Manufacture of a 3250 nm Centre Wavelength Narrow Bandpass Filter
Customer Challenge: The customer needed a 3250 Narrow band filter for a gas detection application. In addition to the standard FWHM requirement at 50% of peak transmission, there were also limits for the 10%, 1% and 0.1% transmission levels. A ‘4-cavity filter design’ was deemed necessary to fulfil these targets. Also, a centre wavelength (CWL) tolerance of +/- 6 nm (i.e. only 0.18% tolerance of the centre wavelength) and achieving a peak transmission of >80% added to the complexity.
Vortex’s Customised Approach: To address these challenges, we needed our highly automated sputter deposition process. Such a specification requires extremely accurate control of all process parameters, and this proved to be key in terms of meeting these requirements. Our state-of-the-art spectrometers calibrated to national standards were able to verify this.
The Outcome: The successful completion of this project highlights Vortex’s ability to deliver high-quality, customised coating solutions for even the most challenging applications, reinforcing our commitment to supporting customers in their advanced product development initiatives.
