Case Study: Long pass filters for the Food Quality Assurance
Customer Challenge: This was for an application in the food industry for an ‘ingredient mixing application’, a near IR long pass filter was needed to check the levels of certain ingredients with spectral fingerprints between 1500 and 2500 nm but their presence could be ‘overpowered’ by stronger signals from other ingredients in the same mixture below 1400 nm.
Vortex Solution: A long wave pass blocking below 1400 nm with a wide angular range that allows high transmission above 1450 nm was deemed the most appropriate solution. Prototypes demonstrated that very intense blocking from the UV to 1400 nm (OD>5) was absolutely necessary.
Result: The solution was effective but could be incorporated into existing equipment with only minor changes to the monitoring instrument’s hardware and software. This project shows Vortex’s adaptability to understand a holistic approach to a solution. The problem involved close collaboration with the instrument manufacturer based on direct feedback from the manufacturing department.
