Case Study:
Customer Challenge: The customer was using a Lead Selenide (PbSe) detector in their gas detection application and required a broadband window to screen out the lower range wavelengths. PbSe is sensitive from 1.0 – 5.2µm and water in particular has several strong absorption bands below 3.15 µm that can overpower some of the less prominent gases IR fingerprints that needed to be measured.
Vortex Solution: A long wave pass blocking below 3100 nm will take away the significant water band’s influence. Vortex were quickly able to supply one of our web-shop filters to demonstrate the solution, this could be further refined to give a more optimised solution. The filter was also designed so that it could be bonded to the detector can (T05).
Result: The solution was effective with a Lead Selenide detector, Vortex was able to assemble a small number of modified detectors for evaluation which indicated the direction to go for higher quantities.
