Mid Infrared 2500 - 6000 nm Long Pass Filters

Long pass filters in the mid-infrared range allow blocking at the shorter wavebands (UV, VISBLE, NEAR IR and SWIR ranges) and transmission between 2500 nm to 6000 nm. More information on the uses and applications of mid infrared long pass filters can be found below. This is often useful when optimising the sensitivity ranges of various IR detectors such as PbSe, thermopiles , boltometers and InAs etc.

We design and manufacture custom mid infrared long pass filters between 2500 nanometres to 6000 nm to any custom specification. We hold a wide range of stock substrates such as Glass, Silicon, Sapphire, Infrared Quartz, Calcium Fluoride and more. We are able to offer a complete design and manufacture package in house and dice filters to their finished size with lead times as little as 2 weeks.

Applications

Spectroscopy and Chemical Analysis:

Long pass filters are widely used in mid-infrared spectroscopy applications for analysing the chemical composition of materials. These filters help in isolating specific infrared wavelengths of interest, facilitating accurate and sensitive spectroscopic measurements in fields such as environmental monitoring, pharmaceutical analysis, and material research.

Thermal Imaging:

Long pass filters play a crucial role in thermal imaging systems that operate in the mid-infrared range. These filters help in blocking unwanted visible and near-infrared light while allowing thermal radiation in the mid-infrared spectrum to pass through, enabling the capture of thermal images for applications in surveillance, thermography, and industrial inspection.

Gas Analysis:

Long pass filters are used in gas analysis instruments, such as infrared gas analysers, to isolate specific absorption lines of gases in the mid-infrared region. By filtering out interfering wavelengths and transmitting the target gas absorption bands, these filters enhance the accuracy and sensitivity of gas detection and monitoring systems.

Remote Sensing:

Long pass filters in the mid-infrared range are employed in remote sensing applications for environmental monitoring, agriculture, and geological surveys. These filters help in filtering out atmospheric interference and background radiation, allowing the detection of specific mid-infrared signatures from the Earth’s surface for various remote sensing applications.

Medical Imaging:

In medical imaging, long pass filters are used in infrared imaging systems for applications such as vain imaging, wound assessment, and temperature monitoring. These filters help in enhancing the contrast and visibility of infrared images by selectively transmitting mid-infrared wavelengths while blocking unwanted light. Point-of-care diagnostics in the IR is a recognised growing area of activity.

Quality Control and Inspection:

Long pass filters are utilised in industrial processes for quality control and inspection tasks that involve infrared imaging and analysis. These filters aid in enhancing the detection of defects, anomalies, and thermal variations in manufactured products by filtering out specific mid-infrared wavelengths for inspection purposes.
