Case Study: Filter window for Temperature Measurement, (optical pyrometry)

Customer Challenge:
Our customer, a manufacturer of infrared temperature measurement instruments, required a wide bandpass filter suitable for use when measuring the temperature of molten metals, typically 900-1150°C. These wide band-pass filters, apart from isolating the band of measurement, also protect some of the more sensitive parts of the instrument

Vortex’s Solution:
Our solution was to use Wien’s Law and work with the customer to determine the appropriate edge positions of a suitable wide bandpass filter. Also due to the high temperatures involved the window was made from Sapphire for added protection for the upstream optics. As an added complication they had experienced supply chain problems meaning they were going to be very late on deliveries to key customers. However using in-house stock material, coating and dicing capability, we were able to supply a total solution. The first batch of 1000 filters were despatched in just 6 days and the remaining filters within 2 weeks

The Result:
Vortex successfully met the urgent demand for these wide bandpass filters, delivering high-quality products rapidly. Our customer was able to maintain their production schedules and meet their own schedule. This case underscores Vortex’s ability to respond to critical supply chain challenges with agility and precision.
